The Hunger Games and YOU!

In her video Suzanne Collins has said that The Hunger Games was inspired by many real life and current events.
There are parallels between the events of The Hunger Games and to our society and history. Research a person or an event in history and explain how that person or event in history is comparable to someone or an event in The Hunger Games.

  1. There is an ancient Greek story that Suzanne Collins mentioned called "Thesues and the Minotaur" that is about a King that lived in a place called Crete and he was rich, powerful and had a beautiful daughter. He got bored all the time, so he killed people that lived in a place called Athen. The King of Athen promised that every 7 years they would give the King of Crete seven girls and seven boys to his Minotaur, so the King of Crete agreed. This continued until a young man named Thesues wanted this to stop, so he volunteered to go with the other 13 children to try and kill the Minotaur. The Princess of Crete was bored of the Minotaur eating all the children so she Thesues to meet her at the Labyrinth gate. But she said she would only help if he took her somewhere else so that others can admire her beauty. Thesues agreed and the Princess gave him a ball of string and a sword. The Princess said that the string was for him to tie to the gate and unravel it until he found the Minotaur so he would know how to get back. Thesues did so and killed the Minotaur with the sword. They then took a boat and went to the nearest island to get supplies and dropped the Princess off there. Soon enough they went back to Athen. The story is comparable because in the story the King of Crete is like the Capitol because they both have control. Thesues is like Katniss because they are both brave. Thesues is brave because he stood up and fought the Minotaur and Katniss is brave because she stood up, not letting Prim go to The Hunger Games, replacing her. The Minotaur is also like the other contestants in the book because they are both fighting the main characters.

  2. I think the hunger games is alot like gladitor wars because 2 or more gladitor would get thorw in a arena and have to fight to surive and if they won they wont get a prize of great vaule. Just like katniss and the other tributes from the districts. Katniss is fighting to surive in the hunger games with peeta and if they win they get a nice house and a unlimted supply of food something katniss never had.

  3. I think The Hunger Games is like the World War 2 because people have to fight for there country and if there country wins there's no gift. This relates back to The Hunger Games because Katniss is in the position that they were in.

  4. the Hunger games reminds me of world war two because just like the Hunger Games people were fighting for there lives and countrys. The wars were kinda more violent but the Hungers games reminds of that horrible time in history. Just like in 1939 when hitlor stared the war with the jews, the capitol runs the annual Hunger Games.

  7. I can relate the Game Makers from The Hunger Games to Hitler. I can relate them because the game makers are killed a lot of people , Hitler also killed a lot of people. Hitler thought Germany was the best country and thought he was so much better then the Jews so he decided to kill them , also like the Capital decided to start the Hunger Games!

  8. I can relate T.H.G to world war two because Hitler hated the jews and wanted to kill them and in The Hunger Games the Capitol is like hitler because the Capitol thinks there better then the other districts so they show them who's better and kills them like Hitler did with the jews.

  9. I can relate the 9 11 attack to Katniss and the tracker jackers.
This reminds me of when the planes crashed into the twin towers and killed lots of people, and when the tracker jackers attacked Katniss then she threw the nest of tracker jackers down onto the Career's and most of the Career's died because of the tracker jackers.

  10. I think that the Olympics is most comparable to the Games because it happens every year just like how the Olympics happens every four years and because its the capitals entertainment just like the Olympics is ours. The last reason i chose the Olymics is because its all televised just like the Games is in the book.

  17. Are dogs really made to fight to the death? Are people really made to fight to the death? The answer is not then why does it have to happen? I think dog fights are comparable to the hunger games because it is the same thing but two different kinds nether of them should be put in a position that they have to fight to the death but in the hunger games and some city’s who do have dog fights they are put in that position. The main reason i chose dog fights is because the have to fight to the death just like the contestants in The Hunger Games they don't have a choice.
