Sam and Bryn's Structure

  1. What I think about our structure
    1. Our building is not stable when the weight went up to our second and third floor and when we placed it on the bottom floor (basement) it touched the ground.

2.The center of gravity starts to move over to the edges more than in the middle as we put the 100gram weight on higher floors.

3.We noticed that on the second and the third floor were actually more balanced when we put the weight on the edges however the bottom didn't really matter because it was just off of the ground so it was always the same.

4.I was thinking personally that we could have made it a square therefore we could make it more stable by putting more supports because a triangle shaped building can only have 3 supports and a square has four and also our building didn't support the weight on the third floor so I also think that we could have put a support in the middle.

  2. 1) My structure was less stable when the 100g mass was placed on the higher flooors because it did not have lots of support and under support to hold the weight of the mass that was placed on each floor of my structure. 2) The centre of gravity shifted when the mass was placed on each floor of my structure by shifting more to the left when it was on the second floor and my third floor did not have a centre of gravity because there was little support to hold the 100g mass. 3) I noticed lots of differences when the weight was moved to the edge of my structure because when the mass was moved to the edge it was more stable except for the third floor because it fell over when the mass was placed on the edge. 4) I would add more support for the third floor so the structure would not fall down and I would also add another support for the first floor so the structure would not shift. What do you remember about the base of a structure and centre of gravity? Do you think having a wider base would help to support the mass?
